DRUM LESSONS, PRIVATE AND ONLINE INSTRUCTION

AUBURN, CALIFORNIA

From the basics to live band performance.

Hit It Big Drum School is committed to making you the best drummer possible. We’ll start with the basics, including hand speed exercises and important patterns to develop. Then we’ll start learning the songs that you’re fired up to drum to. And to develop your full musician skill set, we’ll work together on what it takes to be a performer and how to be in a band. I’ll also help you get ready for auditions, whether you’re auditioning for a school band, a concert, or a symphony.

Over the years, I’ve had so many great students and families come in through the Hit It Big Drum School doors. One dad was so inspired by his daughter’s drumming, that he signed up for lessons. Another mom is taking lessons in secret so she can surprise her twin sons who are also up-and-coming drummers. I once had a student who was just four and half years old when he started. I didn’t think it was possible for someone that small to play drums – but he took to it right away! Now he’s seven and a half and he’s learning his first rock n’ roll song.

Studio

The Hit It Big Drum School music studio is a family-friendly, smoke-free environment. Our drum studio has two drum kits that are set up side by side. Both kits have high quality drums, cymbals and hardware.

The studio features a state-of-the-art audio/video system and music slowdown/speedup  technology so we can adjust the tempo as students learn their music. The waiting area is welcoming and comfy and is perfect for parents who are waiting for their kids to finish their lessons. It’s a great spot for reading emails or helping siblings of students with homework.

PAYMENTS

  • Lessons payments are to be made by check, cash or Venmo. I am also set up to accept PayPal but I charge an extra a fee to cover my cost.
  • At the beginning of each month the student is required to pay for that full month in advance. This is due on the first day of each month.
  • I realize that things happen, so if you forget to bring your payment, I would appreciate it if you would then mail your payment or use PayPal. Address is listed above.
  • I rely on month-to-month commitments from my students; this is how I plan my monthly income and teaching schedule.

CANCELLATIONS & RE-SCHEDULING

  • If you have to cancel a lesson I require 48 hours (two days) notice. Students who miss a lesson(s) and do not notify me 48 hours (two days) in advance will be charged for that lesson(s); there are no exceptions (including missing a lesson for illness).
  • When you cancel a lesson (48 hours notice), as a courtesy I will allow you to make up that lesson at a time other than your regularly scheduled lessons. A cancellation does not alter the payment of the lessons for next month. In other words, if you cancelled a lesson in January, you are still required to pay for all the lessons coming up in February. There are no credits given from month to month for cancelled lessons. The student has to make up every cancelled lesson(s) at some time when it is convenient for him/her and me.
  • Please understand that this is a courtesy in that a re-scheduled lesson will result in me giving you two hours of my time, the hour that was cancelled, and the hour that will have to be scheduled as a make-up lesson (see below). I also want you to understand that it may take a while for a lesson(s) to be made up as I am already teaching and rehearsing about 40 hours a week but if we work together on this it will always work out.
  • Any lessons that fall on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, or other national holidays will not be scheduled or charged for. From time to time I will be scheduling personal holiday time, and I will let you know well in advance and you will not be charged for these days either. If you are planning to be out of town for ski week, summer break, or other holidays, please let me know well in advance so that I can reschedule your lessons or schedule someone else in that spot. Last minute cancellations due to the lack of planning ahead will result in the forfeiture/charge for that lesson(s).
  • If you are planning an extended vacation, Please include me in your plans so I can arrange my teaching schedule accordingly as to when a student is leaving and returning.

MAKE-UP LESSONS

Here's how make-up lessons work:

  • Cancelled lesson will be converted to a make-up lesson. That lesson may be made up during my regular teaching hours, when you and I both have time to fit it into our schedules.
  • Lessons must be made up at a time that is not your regular time spot. This means that you will have two lessons that week that you are doing a make-up.
  • Make-up lessons will be honored until lessons are discontinued.

Please remember, two days notice (48 hours) is required for a cancellation. As always, If you do not give 48 hours notice, the lesson will be marked as missed. In that case you will be required to pay for the lesson and no make-up will be issued. This includes cancelling for illness.
